Acupuncture

What it is

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice in which very thin, sterile needles are placed at specific points on the body.

Dr. Haldeman starts by listening: your health history, what you are noticing, and what you hope for. Your treatment plan is built around you.

SaAm Korean four-needle technique

What it is

SaAm is a Korean acupuncture tradition that uses a small number of carefully chosen needles, often as few as four, selected according to the five-element theory of Oriental medicine. Dr. Haldeman is known for this technique.

Herbal medicine

What it is

Herbal medicine uses plants, minerals and other natural substances in formulas that have been used in Chinese medicine for centuries. Dr. Haldeman selects formulas for you during your visit.

Available through our trusted dispensary partners. See the Herb Shop.

Homeopathy

What it is

Homeopathy is a system of natural medicine that uses very small, highly diluted preparations made from plants, minerals and other natural sources. Dr. Haldeman may include it as a complementary approach within your personalized care.

Good to know: homeopathy is offered alongside, not instead of, care from your primary care provider. Tell Dr. Haldeman about every medicine and supplement you take, and about any pregnancy or health condition. Homeopathic products are not FDA-approved for any medical use.

Gua sha

What it is (pronounced "gwah-shah")

Gua sha is a hands-on technique in which a smooth-edged tool is gently stroked over lubricated skin to stimulate the surface tissues and circulation.

Good to know: gua sha often leaves temporary red or purple marks that fade in a few days. Tell Dr. Haldeman about any skin condition or blood-thinning medication.

Cupping

What it is

In cupping, small glass or silicone cups are placed on the skin to create gentle suction, often along the back and shoulders.

Good to know: cupping can leave round, temporary marks. Tell Dr. Haldeman if you take blood thinners or have sensitive skin.

Moxibustion ("moxa")

What it is

Moxibustion, often shortened to "moxa," is a warming technique in which dried mugwort (moxa) is held near or over acupuncture points.

Good to know: you will feel gentle warmth. Tell Dr. Haldeman if you are sensitive to smoke or scents.

Tuina ("tway-nah")

What it is

Tuina is Chinese therapeutic bodywork that uses pressing, kneading and stretching techniques.
